No, I am not making up a holiday just for myself.  Today is the Chinese New Year aka Lunar New Year.  The Chinese use the Lunar calendar, and their New Year corresponds to the first new moon that occurs in late January or February of our calendar year.   Since it's based on the moon, the date changes from year to year.  The celebration lasts for fifteen days and ends on the date of the full moon.
